"Kyllä äiti. Teen, mikä kysyttiin minusta." Crackling ringed out from behind the massive oak desk sitting in the middle of the absurdly quiet library. The voice was soft, soothing to the ears, and left the lips of a nervous looking teenage woman. Stormy gray eyes stared anxiously at the books and shelves before her, as she tried to settle her focus on something dull, boring, meaningless. Another crackling echoed through the room, didn't matter really, school hadn't started quite yet and there were no students in there with her, but this time it was a bit louder and made the young woman jump in her shoes. "Kyllä äiti! Sinun ei tarvitse huutaa." She rolled her eyes, mumbling under her breath as she debated on hanging up the cell phone.
"Katso, äiti, minun täytyy mennä. Kutsun sinulle huomenna yöllä. Suostumus? Pääse menee, näkemiin!" Caeleigh practically threw the cell phone down on the counter as she let out a sigh of relief. "She always seems to know when I'm lying..." She breathed softly, leaning against the counter for support. Staring around the room, she got an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. No room should be this huge, and this empty. Ever. Flipping open her phone she scrolled past the few contacts she had, stopping on a familiar name and letting her finger hover over the call button.
To be or not to be... That is the question... She flipped the phone shut quickly. Groaning as she tossed it to the side and stepped out from behind the desk. Caeleigh approached the books that had yet to be shelved, and got to work sorting them, her thoughts going from one subject to the next, quicker then her hands were working.

He stood on the second level, staring over the metal and glass railing that prevented people from falling over and smiled. He'd been tailing her for three weeks now, watching her, always laughing in silence when she hung up the phone talking to her mother. And the entire time he had kept himself hidden, just as he had been instructed to do. But, like always, Nikolaus didn't like to do what he was told, and he planned on breaking the rules. Just a bit. Caeleigh picked up her phone again, and this time Niko held his breath, if she called him... Well, who was to say she'd even called him, he'd hurt her pretty bad a few years ago, without even trying to. And she hadn't really talked to him since then. But, to his good fortune she didn't hit the call button, and even though it broke his heart, he could understand why.
With a sigh, he jumped over the side of the railing, falling quite a few feet to the ground, but landing expertly with barely even a sound of his weight hitting the floor. Standing up straight, he smoothed out his wrinkled shirt, removed the top hat from his head and tapped his best friend on the shoulder. She visibly froze before him, and even before she swung around to punch him, Niko was ready.
Catching her fist only an inch from his face he shot the widest grin he could manage at Cael, his chocolate brown eyes glinting with mischief. "Puututtu tuo paljon, huh?" He chuckled, his voice coming out a bit huskier then he was planning. But the look on Cae's face was priceless. Her stormy gray eyes, Niko could never decide if they were tinted with blue or with green - it didn't matter to him, they were beautiful either way -, and her pink, gloss tinted lips upturned into a matching smile.
"N-Nikolaus!?" Cae stared up at him, as though he was some fictional character from one of the millions of books surrounding her. But, deep down, she knew it was really him. The same dark brown eyes, the same cocky smile she always wanted to smack off his face. "Nikolaus, mitä teet täällä!? Koska sait täällä? Kuinka kauan oletko seurannut minua? Paniko äitini sinut tähän asti?" She shot off in rapid Finnish, forgetting for the moment that she was irreversibly angry with him. Niko simply laughed and lifted a finger to her lips, stopping her before she could continue speaking. "Enkö saa halausta ensin? Käynnistytkö ennen kuin kuulustella minua?" He dropped her fist and outstretched his arms, waiting patiently for a hug from his favorite person in the world.
For a moment, Caeleigh was going to hug him, it had been a long time since she'd spoken to him, never mind seen him, but then she remembered. "Etkö miksi kysy tyttöystävääsi yhdelle?" She scowled up at him, shoving at his chest to push him back a few feet, but only achieving about an inch of extra room. "Cael..."
"Don't you dare, Cael... me, Niko. You knew what was coming to you. And it wouldn't be a hug." Cae turned away from him, returning her attention to her work, and ignoring the tears that threateningly welled up in her eyes. "Cael, you know I never meant to hurt you, yeah?" Niko had made a silly mistake in watching shows from Britain and England in order to learn English, so when he spoke, his words were coated with an English accent. Something he hated when he spoke English, but it was something that both Cae and he shared, so it was worth it.
"Kyllä, I know. Yet, I don't care. Go back home, Niko. I'm perfectly fine here." She scowled again when she heard him chuckle. "Not from what I've seen, Cael, y'know, America doesn't suit you very well, you're far to clumsy here, yeah?" Niko simply shrugged off her rejection of a hug and hopped up onto the counter behind him. "And just how how long have you been watching, riuhtaisu?" Caeleigh dropped the book in her hand and turned to glare at him, head on.
Niko simply shrugged. "I lost count awhile ago. Does it really matta'?" He offered up one of his devilishly charming smiles and wiggled his eyebrows, hoping for a laugh, but only getting a smile that Cae was trying to force into a frown. "Yes, it does matter. Wouldn't want you getting jealous when my boyfriend comes around." That was a low blow, and Niko could feel it in every sensitive spot on his body. His heart thudded in anger as he tried to keep his cool and play it off.
"Oooh, a boyfriend, eh? Oooh-ho-ho! Tell me all about him, Cae!" He hopped from the counter again and stepped towards her. In response, Cae stepped around the cart holding the books so that it was between them and thought quickly. "Yes, a boyfriend, I really don't see how it's any of your business." She matched his glare with just about the same amount of intensity, her jaw clenching as she held back what she wanted to yell at him.
"Fine, Cael. Ole pihkassa." Niko was doing his best to keep his anger under control, had she been a man he would have reached across the books and punched her in the face. But, seeing it was Cael, he couldn't even imagine himself hurting her. Clenching his own jaw he grabbed a couple of the books from the cart and walked off without another word. Cae continued to stare at the wall that had been behind him and glared. "What are you doing?"
"Tekminen minun työ. Vähän yksi."
