[/b] Paige Gates.Did Bigfoot Take It? ||Riley Poole || One
Yes. I have a horribly large fascination with National Treasure and Riley Poole. <3 x3
RELATION: Ben's younger cousin.
AGE: Twenty. (Ben is thirty-six; Riley is twenty-three; Abigail is thirty-two)
OCCUPATION:Full-Time Student. Going for a Masters in History and Mythology. Minoring in Ancient Languages, Ancient Runes and Astronomy.
BRIEF BACKGROUND: Paige was raised in Egypt by her parents, who were architects working on uncovering a mound of sand, believed to be a smaller, less important pyramid of ancient times. Unfortunately, the two died when Paige was ten, and she was sent to live with her Uncle Patrick, and of course Ben. She fell madly in love with her families history, and followed Ben around like an obedient puppy.
Having been home-schooled in Egypt, Paige had a bit of a head start then most of the kids in her age group. She graduated High School a year early, and sixteen, and is currently on break from her senior year in college. Of course, she's taken up travelling with Ben, Ian and the newly arrived Riley.
PERSONALITY: Paige is outgoing, sarcastic and has a short temper. She hates most girly things, especially dresses, and tends to wear band tee's, jeans and converse over anything else. Her life revolves around books, history, movies, and her family, especially Ben. She has relationship issues, and also has relationship issues with the girls that Ben picks. Mostly becuase he has horrible taste in women. Usually.

"Henson and Peary." With an ocean of white before us, and nothing more then snow behind us, I couldn't help but end this long and rather uncomfortable silence with some random comment. Not to mention, I was stuck in the cramped back seat of a tiny snow mobile, wishing, desperately, for my nice, warm, overly plush, comfy bed at home. Yet here I was, in the Canadian Artic, freezing my bum off.
"What?" The one before me spoke up for the first time in nearly an hour. Unusual for my cousin, but Ben didn't always make sense. Beside him a ruggedly handsome explorer was carefully keeping watch on the tense snow... Well. He looked hot driving the damn snow mobile, so what did I care? And next to me sat the geeky-tech guy that Ben had recently hired, and I have to say. He was pretty hot too.
Heaven? I believe it's close. Now if only I had a blanket...
"I was thinking about Henson and Peary. You know, crossing this same terrain with nothing more then dog sleds and their feet. Poor dogs." Oddly enough, this snow mobile was louder crossing snow, then a hummer on pavement.
"Could you imagine?" Ben nodded in agreemnet to my statement, his eyes still glaring angrily over the ocean of snow before us. I could understand, we'd... Or rather, he'd been searching a long time for Charlotte. And I was hoping beyond hope we'd actually find it.
"It's extraordinary." Ian glanced back at me with a smile, winking a moment later before going back to focus on his driving. Damn that man's smile was sexy, and his voice, geez- "We getting close?" That question wasn't directed at me, but I didn't mind listening to his voice, I could never quite place his accent. I needed to remind myself to ask him next time I remembered.
"Assuming Ben's theory is correct, and my tracking module's accurate, we should be getting very close." The guy beside me was staring intently at the tiny computer screen in his lap. Riley was a genius when he tried hard enough, and his geeky side had helped us out immensely. Ben and I were the history and myth experts, Ian being the brawn along with his couple of lackeys in the other snow mobile. All together we made a pretty good team. "But, don't go by me, I broke a shoelace this morning."
It made me laugh how quizzical the other two boys looked back at him. "It's a bad omen, guys." I put in my two cents worth and smiled back at Riley before snuggling into the cold pleather seats for what warmth I could manage.
"Shall we turn around and go home?" Ian's joke sent my eyebrow into and arch, but I relaxed once I realized he was just joking around. "Or we could pull over and just throw him out here." Heh. I, for one, didn't enjoy this situation very much, but the frozen arctic outside didn't look very appealing either.
"Haha. Okay." Apparently Riley hadn't found the joke too funny either. Yet his eyes had never left the little computer screen in his lap. How he got any reception all the way out here, I'll never know. I smirked a moment later. "Aw, Riley." I bent closer to him, removing his snow cap and ruffling his hair, "you're not missing that windowless cubicle we found you in are you?" I giggled, setting the cap back on his head. He took a few moments to look up from his computer and glare at me.
"Oh no, absolutely not." And back down to his screen, the eyes go. "Mmhmm. I'm sure you just love the artic cold." Sarcasm dripped from every word, but it got a small smile out of him, so it was worth it. I stuck my tongue out at him, his eyes rolling in response, and all seriousness came over us when his little machine started to beep rapidly. Ian stopped the snow mobile, and the one a few yards behind us came to a sudden halt as well. With static filling the air, a voice echoed in the small cabin.
"Why are we stopping? I thought we were looking for a ship?"
Through the crackling I recognized Shaw's voice, then a moment later another, Shippen's this time. "I don't see any ship."
No Shiz Sherlock.
So those two boys weren't the brightest in the bunch. They were the brawn in this operation anyways. Totally expendable. Y'know? I noticed Ben and Ian climb out of the cabin, and repeatedly poked Riley in the back until her was out. Then cleverly used his shoulder to help myself onto the ground. Oh my God. It's so damn cold.
"Oh she's out there." For his sake, I hoped Ben was right on this. I pulled the zipper of my jacket farther up, stuck my gloved hands in my pockets and stared grumpily out at the acres of snow that greeted us. Riley came up beside him, standing close enough to where are jackets lightly brushed each other, then Shippen had to come up on my other side and ruin the moment. He was standing just a liiiittle bit too close.
"Look, this is a waste of time. How could a ship wind up way out here?" Geez. Could Shippen be anymore of a Debbie Downer? I rolled my eyes and glanced over at Riley, hoping someone would say something half-way intelligent just to amuse me.
"Well. I'm no expert, but it could be that the hydrothermal properties of this region produce hurricane force ice storms that cause the ocean to freeze. Then melt. Then refreeze, resulting in a semi-sold migrating land mass that would land the ship right around here."
Score one point for Riley.
Shippen seemed to be drooling as he tried to think that through. But Riley's big words, like hydrothermal, and freeze, were probably giving him a hard time. I on the other hand, understood about half that. "Can you repeat that in English please?" I laughed, glancing at Riley, but before I could get any kind of response, Ben's annoying little metal detector went off.
This was a good sign.
Rushing over to him I stood on my tippy toes just to see over his shoulder. In his hand he held a small bell with the words Boston Massacre and Charlotte on it. Oh my God. We've found it.
"Hello beautiful." Ben sounded exceptionally happy, and because of that I was getting excited butterflies in my stomach. Ha! Eat that! "Two years ago, if you hadn't shown up, hadn't believed the treasure was real, I don't know if I ever would have found the Charlotte." Ben sounded near tears, I stared blankly at the back of Ben's head. Ian walked up from behind me, resting a hand on both Ben and mine's shoulder.
"You would have found it, I have no doubts. That's why I didn't think this was a crazy investment as everyone says." Ben smiled up, I smiled up, and Ian smiled down at both of us. Ben was happy, I was blushing like crazy, and Ian had yet to remove his hand.
I blame the cold for my blush.
"I'm just relieved I'm not as crazy as everyone says, or said my dad was, or my Granddad, or my Great Granddad." Ian removed his hand from Ben's shoulder, and wrapped his arm around both of mine. It caused me to smile, but I passed it off as him just trying to keep me warm.
Can't hope for too much, right?
"Okay. Let's go."
"Yeah! Let's find us some treasure!"
Btw. I claim nothing about this except mah charry Paige<3 and all the witty things she says. x]
