::The Past::
History
Lauren had been born and raised in the hectic, fast pace, exciting city of New York City. Her mother, Selina Ann Alvarez was a lawyer and a good one at her job while her father, Rafael Alvarez, was an anesthesiologist. With both jobs, the family always lived on the richer side of the area, being completely taken care of. As a child, Lauren had gone through many babysitters that had quit on her. The reason? They saw her powers in action. When the young child had been upset or didn't get her way with her babysitters, she'd be able to tap into her power and make objects 'come to life' as some might say, and attack the ones who made her angry. Of course, to her parents the sitters sounded insane and they fired them.
It wasn't until the age of 5 that her parents were even able to witness her abilities for the first time. One morning when her mother walked in her room one morning, asking if she was ready for school, Lauren had been pointing at a pencil. As her hand moved one way, the pencil moved along. Her mother was frozen in her place, screaming as if she was being murdered. Rafael ran over to the little girls room and he saw his wife as pale as she could be and his daughter, moving the floating pencil around the room as if she did nothing wrong. That day they kept her home, trying to figure out what was wrong with her, with conclusions of her being a 'devil child' or 'a ghost being in the room.' The young Lauren couldn't take it anymore and she showed them what they were afraid of.
All the objects had been moving about the room, swirling in a circle above all of them. She released the objects, not caring if they broke or not. All the energy had weakened Lauren and she fell to her knees. She explained to them as best as she could about what had been going on with her. The family vowed to keep it a secret.
As Lauren had turned 13, the day she thought would have been the best day of her life since she started being a teenager had turned into the worst day that she could remember. Her mother wasn't home, unable to make it out of a case that had been going on for months at the time. As she was in her room, watching her TV, her father came in, closing the door behind her. "Hey, daddy." She said, innocently before her dad, grabbed her, covering her mouth and placing her on the girls bed. He took a knife out of his pocket, holding it to the girls neck.
"Try using your damn powers on me and I will kill you." He whispered as if someone would even be able to hear him in the empty mansion. Ignoring her tears and her pleads, he removed her clothes and, well, you know the rest. Once he was done using her, he zippered up his pants, throwing her clothes at her. "If you tell anyone, I don't give a damn about your powers, I will kill you." He swore to her, leaving the room. That was the darkest day of her life.
The thoughts of what her father did to her were never lost. Always in the back of her head, she'd wonder how to be able to escape the hell of seeing his face everyday. As she grew up, she had two secrets. One, she had the power of Telepathy that she learned to use at any given time she wanted. Two, her father had sexually abused her and she would be killed if anyone found out. She took up drugs and alcohol for an escape from her memories in her drunken state. She'd never forgive the man for what he's making her live through.
One day, the now 17 year old Lauren had been sitting on her porch, smoking a cigarette as the mail man came up to her. "You live here, kid? he asked her, holding the mail in his hand. She nodded, not wanting to get mad over the obvious fact that she lived there. He passed her the mail and quickly walked back into his truck, continuing his deliveries. She sighed, putting out her cigarette and walking into the house, looking through the letters. One was sent to her, but it didn't have a return address. Curiosity had gotten the best of her, and she dropped all the other letters as she ripped open hers. She had been invited.
After reading that one letter, she knew her life would change. She didn't question how someone would have ever found out about her power, but at the moment she didn't care. That was her escape. Packing her things, she left a note at her home saying she probably won't come back and to not even bother to look for her. Lauren made it so she'd be the only one able to cancel her credit card and since she knew her parents pin code, she was able to put a load of money on her card. She made her way through the desert to Brookshire Academy. Her new life had just begun.
